Watch again: How media allegations turn into regulatory headaches
Available on demand: from reputation to investigation – why probes by the media can quickly turn into much more problematic investigations.
From recent raids in a fraud investigation over Government Covid contracts to ‘Beergate’, we are regularly seeing examples of how issues that start as media investigations can within months become more serious investigations.
It is not a new trend: as journalists are incentivised to look for the story that is their ticket to a book deal, and investigators look for the big case that wins them private practice partnership, the risks of failing to understand how reputation and investigation intertwine bear ever steeper penalties.
In our webinar (originally broadcast on 26 May 2022), we reflect on our wealth of experience of some of the most significant international investigations to look at issues, including:
- how and why issues that can become problematic start emerging, and what good businesses can do to act quickly;
- the best strategies for handling issues, with examples from some of the worst;
- what rights those facing investigation have at the point authorities get involved; and
- how to survive and continue to operate during the resolution of an issue, and how to recover and put it behind you afterwards.
The recorded talk is now available to watch again and we welcome any questions on our topic of how companies and individuals can prepare for, prevent and protect against the reputation damage caused by investigations and allegations of wrongdoing.
