Olivia Bishop
Olivia provides strategic and creative problem-solving advice on matters relating to reputational concerns, defamation, and invasions of privacy.
Olivia’s practice covers a range of reputation, risk management and privacy matters including defamation, misuse of private information and data protection. She has a particular interest in issues relating to breach of privacy and where there is an imbalance of power and has a range of experience advising UHNW on risks to their privacy at both the pre and post publication stages, as well as experience of urgent High Court applications and disputes. She provides her clients with practical advice and is calm under pressure, often working in time-sensitive conditions.
Prior to joining Slateford, Olivia trained at a leading UK law firm and qualified into its commercial litigation team. She has experience advising large corporate entities, owner managed businesses and private individuals across a number of sectors, previously dealing with contractual disputes, fraud, misrepresentation and general advisory work. She spent a period of time working for the in-house legal team of a leading global healthcare company so understands the issues legal teams for large household brands face.

- Acing for the Claimant in Price v Associated Newspapers Ltd, with the Claimant achieving an apology, a statement in open court and damages, following the publication of false private and private information.
- Acting for the defendant to an urgent injunction application in a high-profile dispute, achieving a favourable out of court settlement.
- Acting in claims for defamation, damages including aggravated damages for unlawful means conspiracy and an injunction.
- Advising individuals and businesses on issues affecting their reputation and breaching their privacy rights. This includes drafting pre action correspondence and bringing various claims for dissemination of false and defamatory information, trademark infringement and breach of terms of service.
- Advising a regulatory body through crisis and mitigating that crisis through strategic public communications.
- Utilising Court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions to uncover the perpetrators of a worldwide conspiracy and smear campaign.
- Advising a number of England international and premier league footballers and engaging in pre-publication correspondence.
- Securing the successful take-down or correction of inaccuracies in various publications.
- Work on pre-publication correspondence matters relating to various investigative journalism pieces and BBC Panorama investigations, providing successful results, and ensuring that the published narrative is fair and accurate.
