Senior Associate to Partner
We are looking for a lawyer at Senior Associate to Partner level to lead on delivery of client work projects, manage lawyers and trainees to deliver tasks, and ensure the delivery of outstanding-quality work product.
About us
We are a specialist law firm that helps businesses and individuals handle serious issues and crises that impact their reputation, privacy and freedom to operate. Our clients range from the world’s largest listed companies to prominent athletes and artists, assisting them through a diverse range of problems – from being blackmailed to facing investigations, and allegations of misconduct through to dealing with harassment and fixated risks. We believe in using the skills we hone working for the world’s elite to help those who would not otherwise have access to that advice, and campaign and advise on topics we believe in, particularly around online harms, intimate image abuse and social exclusion.
We are specialists in using media laws, while using our broad knowledge of where problems come from to devise strategies that resolve the underlying problems that cause them. We set out two years ago to do things differently in how we work and how we advise, and clients see this in long-term relationships making better decisions to handle their problems.
Our work is recognised with numerous award nominations including Crisis Management Team of the Year (British Legal Awards 2022), Boutique Disputes Firm of the Year (The Lawyer 2021) and Reputation Management Law Firm of the Year (Magic Circle Awards 2022).
The role
Day-to-day you will lead on delivery of client work projects, managing lawyers and trainees to deliver tasks, and ensuring outstanding quality work product is delivered to clients. Client relationship management and engagement will form a significant part of the role.
Development of our people is critical to our approach, and you will be expected to enthusiastically support and develop talent within the firm.
The successful candidate(s) will be asked to be a public face of the firm – speaking at events, marketing and building the firm’s network. If needed they will be given support in developing rainmaking skills to generate business for the firm, and will likely be asked to travel overseas as part of that.
Senior lawyers play their part in the effective running of the firm, managing internal processes and taking responsibility for regulatory and compliance tasks, supported by the firm’s compliance and finance teams.
What we offer
Our stated aim is to develop lawyers who will go on to have better careers than the partners in the firm, by developing not only elite technical skills in the areas of law we cover, but elite skills in developing client and business relationships and learning adjacent skills that deliver more effective outcomes than clients can get elsewhere. We have recently been shortlisted for Best Employer – Career Progression at the Citywealth Future Leaders awards, along with our first trainee being recognised by the same programme as a nominee for one of the lawyer of the year awards.
We will support you in developing the ability to build your network and generate opportunities from it, providing a platform to become a thought leader in our sector while gaining the ability to win work.
Our salaries are competitive in line with specialist boutique firms. We do not pretend that we pay magic circle rates, nor do we demand Magic Circle work patterns. We believe in rewarding for performance, and those who generate value for the firm will receive the benefit of it.
You will be asked to work out of hours on urgent evening and weekend work when it is necessary due to the nature of crisis work, but we also work flexibly and pragmatically. Our lawyers frequently work from client locations across Europe, in Asia, the US and the Middle East.
You
We are looking for lawyers with experience working in reputation management, investigations, or with extensive experience of other crisis areas, who are looking for a platform to develop the next stage of their career.
You should have exemplary technical and analytical ability, strong client and people management skills and an understanding of the working of law firms as a base. We are looking for those who are intellectually curious in finding new ways to solve problems, engaged with international and current affairs and with a keen interest in understanding trends in crisis and the business world.
Exceptional candidates will have built a strong, active network of contacts in relevant financial centres. You should be comfortable speaking at events and to media, and representing the firm at events in the UK and overseas.
A following of client work is not necessary. Proven rainmaking ability will be an advantage. A willingness to take the steps to develop both is essential. Assessing these credentials will be part of deciding whether a Senior Associate or Partner role is most appropriate.
